It includes food intake, absorption, assimilation, biosynthesis, catabolism, and excretion. Nutrition is also defined as the study of nutrients in food, how the body uses nutrients, and the relationship between diet, health, and disease.

Food science is the study of the physical, biological, and chemical makeup of food; and the concepts underlying food processing.

Nutrition and Food science are very closely related as Nutrition studies the relationship between foods and its effect on an individual’s health and Food Science considers chemical, biological, and physical properties of food in relation to manufacturing, processing, and storage of food products.
